Before applying for NDA 1 2027, candidates must meet UPSC’s eligibility requirements for age/date of birth, educational qualification, nationality and marital status. It sounds obvious. But a mismatch in your date of birth or Class 12 subjects can end your application before your preparation even counts.

UPSC is scheduled to release the official NDA 1 2027 notification on 2 December 2026. Until then, this guide explains the eligibility requirements for age, education, nationality, marital status and physical fitness based on the latest available NDA rules.

It will help you understand which NDA wings you can apply for, the expected DOB range and the conditions you must satisfy before submitting your application.

  • They were born within the notified date-of-birth window.
  • They have passed or are appearing in Class 12.
  • They satisfy the prescribed physical and medical fitness standards.

NDA 1 2027 Age Limit: Which Birth Dates Qualify?

UPSC doesn’t apply a simple “16.5 to 19.5 years” check. Instead, it notifies an exact date-of-birth window.

Expected DOB Window for NDA 1 2027

Cycle

Born Not Earlier Than

Born Not Later Than

Status

NDA I 2026

1 July 2007

1 July 2010

Official

NDA 1 2027

1 July 2008

1 July 2011

UPSC typically shifts this window by one year per cycle, so treat the 2027 dates as an estimate.

How to Check Your NDA Age Eligibility

  1. Check your Class 10 certificate: Find the date of birth recorded on your Matriculation or equivalent examination certificate.
  2. Compare your DOB: Check whether your birth date falls within the expected NDA 1 2027 eligibility window of 1 July 2008 to 1 July 2011.
  3. Verify the official notification: Confirm the exact DOB range when UPSC releases the NDA 1 2027 notification on 2 December 2026.
  4. Check other eligibility conditions: Meeting the age requirement alone is insufficient. You must also satisfy the educational, nationality, marital status and medical criteria.

Is There Any Age Relaxation for NDA 1 2027?

Under the current NDA eligibility rules, UPSC does not provide a separate category-based age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC or other reserved-category candidates. All applicants must satisfy the date-of-birth range specified in the official notification, regardless of their category.

NDA Educational Qualification: Does Your Class 12 Stream Matter?

Yes, but only if you’re aiming for the Navy or Air Force. Here’s how UPSC frames it.

  • Army Wing: Any Stream Works

UPSC’s notice requires a “12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.”

No subjects are specified, so commerce and arts students qualify for the Army wing.

  • Navy, Air Force and INA: PCM Is Required

For these wings, the same qualification must be “with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.” Without these two subjects in Class 12, these wings stay closed.

  • Can Class 12 Appearing Students Apply?

Yes. Students currently in Class 12 can apply. They must then submit proof of passing by the deadline UPSC sets in the notification. Class 11 students cannot apply.

NDA Nationality Criteria: Who Can Apply Besides Indian Citizens?

Under UPSC rules, a candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India
  • A subject of Nepal
  • A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India may be eligible.

Candidates belonging to the second and third categories must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

However, this certificate is not required for candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

Key Takeaway: Indian citizens need no extra nationality paperwork.

How Many NDA Attempts Are Allowed?

There is no separate fixed attempt limit under the current NDA eligibility framework. The practical number of attempts depends on how many NDA I and NDA II exam cycles your date of birth remains within the eligible UPSC window.

For example, if your DOB falls within the permitted range for multiple NDA cycles, you may appear in each of those cycles, provided you continue to satisfy the other eligibility conditions.

Marital Status and Gender: Can Girls and Married Candidates Apply?

Unmarried Candidates Only

Married candidates cannot apply. The rule also continues after selection:

  • If you marry after applying, you won’t be selected for training, even if you clear the exam.
  • If you marry during training, you’ll be discharged and must refund what the government spent on you.

Can Girls Apply for NDA 1 2027?

Yes. Unmarried women are eligible for all three wings. This follows the Supreme Court’s 2021 order allowing women to sit the NDA exam. The first batch of women cadets joined the academy in 2022.

Key Takeaway: Stay unmarried from the date you apply until your training ends.

NDA 1 2027 Physical and Medical Eligibility Requirements

Apart from age and educational qualifications, candidates must satisfy the physical and medical standards prescribed for admission to the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy.

UPSC's NDA eligibility guidelines cover physical measurements, eyesight, hearing, general health and other medical conditions. The exact standards can vary depending on the service and branch, particularly for candidates aiming to join the Air Force Flying Branch.

What Physical and Medical Conditions Must Candidates Meet?

  • Height and weight: Candidates must meet the applicable height and weight standards for their entry.
  • Eyesight: Vision requirements differ across services, with specific standards for flying-related duties.
  • Hearing and general health: Candidates must satisfy the prescribed medical fitness requirements.
  • Medical examination: Candidates recommended through the SSB selection process must undergo a medical examination according to the applicable Armed Forces standards.

Who Is Not Eligible for NDA 1 2027?

Even if a candidate meets the age and educational qualifications, certain conditions can prevent admission to the National Defence Academy.

Under the current NDA rules, candidates may be ineligible if:

  • They are debarred from holding a defence commission: Candidates debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding a commission in the Defence Services are not eligible.
  • They withdrew from a training academy on disciplinary grounds: Candidates who resigned or withdrew from an Armed Forces training academy for disciplinary reasons cannot apply.
  • They fail to meet the prescribed medical standards: Candidates must satisfy the applicable physical and medical requirements for admission.

Does Failing CPSS Affect NDA Eligibility?

Candidates who previously failed the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) or Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) are subject to restrictions concerning pilot or flying duties.

However, the current NDA rules allow such candidates to be considered for eligible Air Force Ground Duty branches if they express their willingness through the prescribed process.

How Major Kalshi Classes Help After You’ve Checked Eligibility?

Confirming eligibility is step one. The harder part is turning the next six months into a plan that fits your wing.

  • Preparation that matches your wing: The Maths paper is compulsory for every wing. So an Army aspirant from commerce or arts must rebuild Class 11-12 Maths from scratch. A PCM student targeting the Air Force needs speed in Maths and early SSB preparation.

  • A track record you can check: Over 20 years, MKC reports 15,000+ online and offline selections from its Prayagraj base. Read their stories on the Success Story page.

Your Next Step After Checking NDA 1 2027 Eligibility

  • Your Class 10 DOB must fall within the window UPSC confirms on 2 December 2026.
  • The Navy, Air Force and INA need PCM; the Army accepts any stream.
  • You must be unmarried and meet UPSC’s nationality rule.

If you qualify, the clock is already running. The written exam is about six months away, and applications close on 22 December.
