The NDA Maths syllabus 2027 covers eight units from Class 11-12 Mathematics: Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, and Statistics and Probability. The paper has 120 questions worth 300 marks, with negative marking.

  • If you’ve opened UPSC’s official syllabus, you know the problem. It’s one long paragraph of topics, with no hint of which chapters actually decide your score.

This guide fixes that. You’ll see what each unit covers, where the marks usually come from, and a study order that fits the NDA 1 exam on 11 April 2027.

NDA Maths Syllabus 2027 – Complete Chapter-Wise Topics

The NDA 1 2027 Maths syllabus covers eight major units under the latest available UPSC syllabus. Candidates should prepare every unit rather than assuming certain chapters are optional. The final syllabus will be confirmed in the 2027 notification.

1. Algebra (22-28 Questions)

Algebra covers number systems, equations and counting techniques. Important topics include:

  • Sets, Venn diagrams, relations and operations on sets.
  • Complex numbers and their properties; binary number system.
  • Quadratic equations and linear inequalities.
  • Arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions.
  • Permutations and combinations, binomial theorem and logarithms.

2. Matrices and Determinants (9-12 Questions)

This unit focuses on matrix operations and solving simultaneous equations.

  • Types of matrices, addition, multiplication and transpose.
  • Determinants and their properties.
  • Adjoint and inverse of a square matrix.
  • Solving linear equations using matrices and Cramer's rule.

3. Trigonometry (10-15 Questions)

Trigonometry tests your understanding of angles, identities and their applications.

  • Degree and radian measures; trigonometric ratios.
  • Identities and sum, difference, multiple and submultiple angle formulae.
  • Inverse trigonometric functions.
  • Heights and distances; properties of triangles.

For example, height-and-distance questions use trigonometric ratios to calculate an object's height from a given angle and distance.

4. Analytical Geometry of Two and Three Dimensions (15-25 Questions)

This unit covers coordinate geometry in two-dimensional and three-dimensional space.

  • Cartesian coordinates, distance formula and straight lines.
  • Angles between lines, circles and their equations.
  • Conic sections: parabola, ellipse and hyperbola.
  • Three-dimensional coordinates, direction cosines and ratios.
  • Equations of lines, planes and spheres in 3D.

5. Differential Calculus (12-18 Questions)

Differential Calculus focuses on functions, derivatives and their applications.

  • Functions, domain, range and graphs.
  • Limits and continuity.
  • Derivatives and differentiation rules, including the chain rule.
  • Second-order derivatives; increasing and decreasing functions.
  • Applications of derivatives, including maxima and minima.

6. Integral Calculus and Differential Equations (12-18 Questions)

Integral Calculus

  • Indefinite and definite integrals.
  • Standard integration formulae, substitution and integration by parts.
  • Applications of definite integrals to areas bounded by curves.

Differential Equations

  • Order and degree; general and particular solutions.
  • Formation and solution of first-order differential equations.
  • Applications involving growth and decay.

7. Vector Algebra (5-8 Questions)

Vector Algebra deals with quantities having both magnitude and direction.

  • Vectors in two and three dimensions.
  • Magnitude, direction, unit and null vectors.
  • Vector addition and scalar multiplication.
  • Scalar (dot) and vector (cross) products.
  • Applications in geometry and mechanics.

8. Statistics and Probability (5-10 Questions)

Statistics

  • Data classification, frequency distributions and graphs.
  • Mean, median and mode.
  • Variance and standard deviation.
  • Correlation and regression.

Probability

  • Random experiments, sample spaces and events.
  • Addition and multiplication rules.
  • Conditional probability and Bayes' theorem.
  • Random variables and binomial distribution.

"Weightage shifts every year. Skip a 'small' chapter and you'll lose more marks than you expect." - Saurabh Singh, Academic Director, MKC

Key Takeaway: Algebra, Calculus and Trigonometry decide most of your score. Vectors and 3D give the fastest marks per hour.

In What Order Should You Study NDA Maths Before 11 April 2027?

You have roughly six months. This order builds foundations first and saves the final weeks for timed practice.

  1. October–November 2026: Algebra, Matrices and Trigonometry. These also support your board preparation.
  2. December 2026: Analytical Geometry and Vector Algebra. Submit your application before 22 December.
  3. January 2027: Differential and Integral Calculus, then Statistics and Probability.
  4. February–March 2027: Boards take priority, but keep 30–40 minutes of NDA practice daily.
  5. Mid-March to 10 April: Full-length timed mocks, with a mistake review after each.

Mark a chapter done only after three checks: concepts clear, formulas noted, PYQs solved.

Two mistakes to avoid:

  • Leaving Calculus for the last month.
  • Blind guessing. At −0.83 per wrong answer, three wrong guesses cancel one correct answer.

How to Prepare for the NDA Maths Syllabus 2027?

Completing the syllabus isn't enough; NDA Maths also requires speed, accuracy and regular practice.

  1. Build Strong Concepts: Study NCERT Class 11 and 12 Mathematics, focusing on weaker fundamentals.
  2. Revise Formulas: Maintain a notebook of important identities, derivatives, integrals and shortcuts.
  3. Practise NDA PYQs: Solve previous-year questions after completing each chapter to understand question patterns.
  4. Attempt Timed Mock Tests: Analyse incorrect answers, identify weak areas and improve time management.

Pro Tip: Follow this preparation cycle: Concepts → Formulas → PYQs → Mock Tests → Revision.
