India has successfully tested a new powerful anti-submarine rocket called ERASR from the Navy’s warship INS Kavaratti. This marks a big step forward in building strong, made-in-India defence systems.
The Indian Navy has successfully tested a new powerful anti-submarine rocket called ERASR (Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket). This rocket has been developed by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation)and was tested from INS Kavaratti - a modern, Indian-made warship specially built to hunt submarines. This new rocket is a big step forward for India’s defence technology. Unlike the older Russian-made weapons currently used, ERASR can hit enemy submarines from much farther away - over 8 kilometres, compared to the 5-kilometre range of the older system. It can attack underwater threats at both short and long distances. INS Kavaratti, the ship used for the test, is the last of four Kamorta-class warships built under Project 28. It is loaded with advanced weapons and sensors, making it perfect for testing new technology like ERASR. The ship is also a symbol of India’s goal to make more defence equipment at home, with nearly 90% of its parts made in India. The success of this test shows how well India’s shipbuilding and defence research teams are working together. It makes the Navy stronger and more prepared, and supports the national mission of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” - a self-reliant India. This achievement not only boosts the Indian Navy’s ability to fight enemy submarines but also highlights India’s growing strength in building its own defence systems.Indian Navy Boosts ASW Capabilities with ERASR
