The Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Bandipora’s Gurez sector during Operation Naushera Nar IV.
Acting on specific intelligence, security forces launched a joint operation and killed two terrorists in a brief exchange of fire, while search operations continue to track down more infiltrators possibly hiding in the area.
In a major security success, the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police stopped an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district. The joint operation, called Operation Naushera Nar IV, was launched early Thursday morning after security agencies received specific intelligence about possible infiltrators trying to cross over. During the operation, troops noticed suspicious movement near the LoC. When the soldiers challenged the group, the infiltrators opened heavy and indiscriminate fire. The Army and Police responded quickly and effectively, killing two terrorists on the spot. Officials believe that five more terrorists may still be hiding in the area. The operation is still underway with intensive search and combing operations being carried out in nearby forests and ridges. Security forces are determined to ensure that no terrorist manages to escape. The Gurez region, known for its rough terrain and thick vegetation, has often been used as a route by terrorists attempting to infiltrate from across the border. Such attempts usually increase before winter, as high mountain passes soon become blocked by snow. According to sources, weapons and ammunition have been recovered from the slain terrorists. Investigators are trying to confirm their identity, origin, and possible links to Pakistan-based terror groups. This will help security agencies understand their intended targets inside Jammu and Kashmir. Senior Army officials have said that this infiltration attempt is another example of hostile elements across the border trying to disturb peace in the Valley. At the same time, the Army has reiterated its commitment to keeping a strong counter-infiltration grid and maintaining round-the-clock vigilance along the LoC. The Jammu & Kashmir Police also highlighted the close cooperation between local police and the Army, which has helped in neutralising such threats quickly and preventing them from spreading into civilian areas. The killing of two infiltrators under Operation Naushera Nar IV is seen as a big success for India’s security forces. The incident once again shows the difficult conditions in which troops operate along the LoC, where terrorists often try to sneak in under the cover of darkness, thick forests, and mountainous terrain. The situation in Gurez remains ongoing, and more information about this operation and any recoveries is likely to come in the next few days.Search Operations Continue in Gurez After Two Terrorists Neutralised
