To enhance mobility in BrahMos, the Philippine Marine Corps has decided how to use its new BrahMos missile systems which emphasizes that instead of using the same setup as India, which carries three missiles on one vehicle, the Philippines will only carry two.

This customization will better suit the country's roads, bridges, and island terrain. Its main goal is to make sure that the missile system can move around more easily and work well across the different parts of the country.

PMC Opts for Two-Missile BrahMos Setup

The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) has made a decision, in order to enhance mobility, to use a version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system that will carry only two missiles per launcher, instead of the three-missile version which is presently used by India.

The factor on the basis of which this decision has been made is the Philippines’ unique geography and infrastructure.

The country consists of many islands and its roads and bridges, which are especially in remote areas, are not strong enough to handle the weight of a full launcher carrying three heavy missiles and hence these customizations are necessary for swift mobility.

Developed by India and Russia, the BrahMos missile, is a powerful weapon and therefore its enhancement is necessary.

Its characteristics state that it can fly at speeds of up to Mach 3, and is known for its accuracy and ability to hit both land and sea targets.

Each missile weighs around 3 tons, and the launcher vehicle is built on a large 12-wheel Tatra truck.

Carrying three missiles makes the vehicle very heavy and harder to move around, especially on weak roads or small bridges according to the Indian version.

Therefore, according to this system, the missile launchers will be able to travel more easily across the Philippines’ varied and often difficult terrain.

The PMC is making the whole system lighter and more mobile by using only two missiles per launcher.

It also makes sure that the places where moving heavy military equipment is difficult and often a big challenge, the missile system will be deployed more effectively across the country’s many islands.

Therefore, in order to make  the system more practical and effective for national defense, the PMC chooses a lighter version of the BrahMos system to better fit the country’s landscape and infrastructure.
