The CDS 1 2027 age limit is an important eligibility requirement for candidates planning to join the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), or Officers Training Academy (OTA).
UPSC CDS 1 2027 Age Limit and Date of Birth Criteria
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) determines the eligible age range for each academy and specifies the permitted dates of birth in its official notification.
The official CDS 1 2027 notification has not been released. Therefore, the date-of-birth criteria mentioned in this article are expected dates based on previous notification patterns, not confirmed eligibility dates. Candidates must check the official UPSC notification before applying.
CDS 1 2027 Age Limit: Overview
The CDS 1 2027 age limit differs according to the academy selected by the candidate. IMA and INA generally accept unmarried male candidates aged 19 to 24 years, while AFA has an age limit of 20 to 24 years, subject to the applicable Commercial Pilot Licence provision. OTA has separate conditions for men and women.

CDS 1 2027 Date of Birth Criteria Explained
UPSC does not determine eligibility simply by checking a candidate’s age on the examination date. Instead, the official notification specifies a permitted date-of-birth range for each academy.
For example, if the notification states that a candidate must have been born not earlier than 2 January 2004 and not later than 1 January 2009, both dates are included in the eligible range. A candidate born before or after that range would not meet that particular age criterion.
The expected date-of-birth ranges below can help candidates assess their likely eligibility, but they should not be treated as final until UPSC publishes the CDS 1 2027 notification.
1. CDS 1 2027 Age Limit for IMA
The Indian Military Academy in Dehradun trains candidates for commission as officers in the Indian Army. Under previous CDS I eligibility rules, applicants for IMA must be unmarried male candidates who meet the prescribed age and educational requirements.
Based on the previous CDS I notification pattern, the expected date-of-birth range for CDS 1 2027 is 2 January 2004 to 1 January 2009.
Candidates must also hold a degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification. Final-year degree students may be eligible under the conditions specified in the official notification.
2. CDS 1 2027 Age Limit for INA
The Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala prepares candidates for officer entry into the Indian Navy. Previous CDS I notifications have prescribed an age range of 19 to 24 years for eligible unmarried male candidates.
For CDS 1 2027, the expected date-of-birth range is 2 January 2004 to 1 January 2009, subject to confirmation by UPSC.
Candidates applying for INA must meet the applicable educational requirements, which include an engineering degree under the previous notification criteria. Applicants should read the final notification carefully to confirm the accepted qualifications and any additional conditions.
3. CDS 1 2027 Age Limit for AFA
The Air Force Academy trains candidates for officer entry into the Indian Air Force. The usual age requirement is 20 to 24 years, calculated according to the date specified in the notification.
For CDS 1 2027, the expected date-of-birth range for candidates without the applicable Commercial Pilot Licence age provision is 2 January 2004 to 1 January 2008.
Under previous rules, the upper age limit could be extended to 26 years for candidates holding a valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India. The applicable date-of-birth range and licence conditions must be checked in the CDS 1 2027 notification.
Educational eligibility also matters. Candidates generally need a recognised degree with Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level, or a Bachelor of Engineering, subject to the official requirements.
4. CDS 1 2027 Age Limit for OTA Men
The Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai offers Short Service Commission entry through CDS. Male candidates applying for the OTA must meet the age, educational and marital-status conditions specified by UPSC.
Based on the previous CDS I notification pattern, the expected date-of-birth range for OTA men is 2 January 2003 to 1 January 2009.
Candidates generally need a degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification. Unlike candidates applying for IMA, INA and AFA, OTA applicants appear for the English and General Knowledge papers rather than the Elementary Mathematics paper.
5. CDS 1 2027 Age Limit for OTA Women
Women candidates can apply through CDS for the relevant Short Service Commission entry at OTA, Chennai, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.
Based on previous CDS I rules, eligible categories have included unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried, and issueless divorcees who have not remarried and possess the required divorce documents.
The expected date-of-birth range for CDS 1 2027 is 2 January 2003 to 1 January 2009. Candidates must confirm the accepted categories, documentary requirements and final age criteria in the official notification.
Is There Any Age Relaxation in CDS 1 2027?
Candidates should not assume that the age limit will be relaxed based on their category or personal circumstances. CDS eligibility is governed by the conditions in the UPSC notification, and general category-based age relaxation should not be assumed.
The Air Force Academy has a specific provision under previous rules for eligible candidates holding a valid and current DGCA-issued Commercial Pilot Licence. This provision may permit an upper age limit of 26 years, subject to the applicable criteria.
Candidates should check the final notification for the exact provisions relevant to their chosen academy.
CDS 1 2027 Age Limit and Marital Status
Age and marital status are separate eligibility conditions. Meeting the required age range does not automatically make a candidate eligible for every academy.
Academy | Marital-status conditions based on previous rules |
IMA | Unmarried male candidates |
INA | Unmarried male candidates |
AFA | Candidates below 25 must be unmarried; additional conditions apply to married candidates aged 25 or above |
OTA Men | Unmarried male candidates |
OTA Women | Unmarried women and certain eligible issueless widows or divorcees who have not remarried |
For AFA, previous notifications have stated that marriage is not permitted during training for candidates below 25. Married candidates aged 25 or above may be eligible subject to restrictions, including conditions relating to accommodation and living with family during training.
These provisions must be checked against the CDS 1 2027 notification before making an application.
How to Check Your Eligibility for CDS 1 2027
Candidates can use the following steps to assess their eligibility:
- Check your date of birth: Compare your date of birth with the range specified for your chosen academy.
- Select the academy: Age criteria differ for IMA, INA, AFA, and OTA.
- Check your educational qualification: Confirm that your degree or other required qualification matches the academy’s eligibility conditions.
- Review marital-status rules: Check whether your current status meets the requirements for the selected entry.
- Read the official notification: Confirm all conditions, including the exact dates of birth, documents and any special provisions.
- Verify medical and physical standards: Candidates must also satisfy the applicable service-specific medical and physical fitness requirements.
