To make the Indian Army stronger and better prepared to deal with terrorist threats, the Ministry of Defence has made several quick and important purchases under the Emergency Procurement system.

These purchases include modern weapons, protective gear, drones, radars, and other advanced equipment that will help soldiers stay safe, move quickly, and fight more effectively.

The goal is to improve the Army’s ability to respond fast during counter-terrorism missions, especially in tough and dangerous areas like border zones and conflict regions.

India Strengthens Army’s Anti-Terror Capabilities with Emergency Purchases Worth ₹1,981.90 Cr.

In a major push to make the Indian Army stronger and faster in responding to terrorist threats, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed 13 important contracts.

These deals have been finalised under the Emergency Procurement (EP) mechanism, a system that allows the Army to quickly buy weapons and essential battlefield equipment when there is an urgent need.

These contracts are worth a total of ₹1,981.90 crore, which is almost the full amount of the ₹2,000 crore budget that was specially set aside for this purpose.

The aim is to ensure that our soldiers have all the tools they need to protect the nation and fight back with strength and precision, especially in counter-terrorism (CT) operations.

The purchases have been made through fast-track procedures, meaning there were fewer delays, less paperwork, and quicker approvals to speed up the process.

These systems and equipment will directly help our troops operating in difficult terrains such as border regions, forests, and conflict zones like Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast.

Key objectives of this emergency purchase are:

  • Better Situational Awareness: So troops can monitor enemy movements and respond quickly.

  • Increased Lethality: To give our forces powerful weapons and attack capabilities.

  • High Mobility: So soldiers can move fast and stay one step ahead of threats.

  • Stronger Protection: To ensure the safety and survival of troops during missions.

The following equipments are being procured:-

  1. Integrated Drone Detection & Interdiction Systems (IDDIS):

These systems help detect enemy drones by neutralizing and jamming their signals or shooting them down. Use of drones in surveillance and attacks is important for defence and battle combat.

  1. Low Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR):

Small and mobile radars that can spot low-flying aircraft and drones even in hilly or jungle terrain. These radars improve early warning capability during CT ops.

  1. Very Short-Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS):

These are man-portable missile systems that can be used by soldiers to shoot down enemy drones, helicopters, or aircraft flying at low altitudes.

  1. Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs):

These surveillance and strike drones can be flown remotely to watch over an area or carry out targeted attacks without risking soldiers’ lives.

  1. Loitering Munitions, including VTOL systems:

Also called kamikaze drones, they can hover in the air over a target area and strike precisely when needed. VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) types can be launched and landed even in small or rugged spaces.

  1. Multiple Types of Drones:

A range of drones is being procured for surveillance, communication, mapping, and offensive tasks. Drones are now an important part of modern military strategy.

  1. Bullet Proof Jackets (BPJs):

These bullet jackets are designed to stop bullets and shrapnel thereby offering life-saving protection to soldiers during close-combat missions.

  1. Ballistic Helmets:

Strong helmets that protect soldiers’ heads from gunfire and explosions during intense operations.

  1. Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs – Heavy and Medium):

These are heavily armored and fast vehicles used by soldiers to quickly reach dangerous spots, engage in combat, or rescue team members. They are highly mobile and made for tough terrains.

  1. Night Sights for Rifles:

These devices help soldiers aim and shoot accurately in low-light or nighttime conditions, giving them a tactical edge during night operations.

The Indian Army is stepping into a new phase of modern warfare preparedness by equipping itself with the latest in technology, mobility, and protection through this set of emergency purchases.

These fast-track acquisitions will greatly boost the efficiency, safety, and effectiveness of our soldiers, especially in missions involving counter-terrorism, border defence, and rapid reaction.

This move reflects India’s strong intent to strengthen its national security infrastructure, reduce dependence on foreign imports, and stay ready for any threat- today and in the future.
