India, Israel Strengthen Anti-Terror Defence Link

New Delhi: India and Israel have decided to take their defence partnership to the next level by working on long-term cooperation.

This was agreed during a meeting on Wednesday between Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Israeli Defence Ministry’s Director General, Major General Amir Baram.

During the talks, the Israeli official strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and expressed full support for India’s fight against terrorism.

In response, Singh reiterated India’s strict no-tolerance policy towards terrorism.

He also condemned the terrorist attacks that took place in Israel on October 7, 2023, and called for the release of all hostages taken during the incident.

The two sides reviewed the progress made in their defence cooperation since their last meeting in July 2024.

An official described the visit by Major General Baram as an important step in boosting the India-Israel defence relationship, highlighting both countries’ commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership.

India has recently used several Israeli-made weapon systems during the cross-border conflict with Pakistan from May 7 to 10.

These included Harop and Harpy kamikaze drones, which crash into enemy targets like radars and explode, as well as the Barak-8 surface-to-air missile systems.

The Barak-8, developed jointly by India and Israel, played a key role in India’s air defence system by stopping incoming Turkish drones and Chinese-made missiles used by Pakistan during the clashes.
