Amid rising tensions in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have intensified counter-terror operations following recent attacks by Pakistan-backed groups.

In a series of coordinated actions, multiple terrorists-including top commanders - have been eliminated, signaling a firm crackdown on insurgency in the region.

Tral Gunfight: Terror Trio Neutralized

In a major counter-terror operation, three terrorists were neutralized in the Nader area of Tral in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora region early Thursday morning.

The operation was launched jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), following specific intelligence input.

The security forces had cordoned off the area after receiving a tip-off about the presence of terrorists.

As they began a search operation, troops noticed suspicious movement. When challenged, the terrorists opened heavy fire, prompting a fierce gunfight. The encounter, dubbed Operation Nader, is still underway as forces continue combing the area for any remaining threats.

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the operation via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened heavy fire and a fierce gunfight ensued. Operation is in progress.”

This encounter comes as part of heightened counter-terror efforts across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead.

The attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based and UN-designated terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Just two days earlier, on May 13, Indian forces carried out a successful operation in the Keller Forest of Shopian district.

Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Army, police, and CRPF engaged terrorists in an intense gunfight, resulting in the killing of three militants, including a local TRF commander. Weapons, including AK-series rifles, grenades, and large quantities of ammunition, were recovered from the site.

These operations are being seen as part of India’s intensified crackdown on terror networks, following the high-impact Operation Sindoor, which targeted and destroyed multiple terror infrastructure facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Nearly 100 terror operatives were reportedly eliminated in precision strikes at key locations, including Jaish headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar training camps in Muridke.

Security forces remain on high alert as they continue to dismantle terror networks operating in the region, with the TRF and LeT at the center of the ongoing insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
